Sporteluxe Be You Campaign

By Thursday, February 19, 2015 No tags Permalink 9

I was interviewed by Emilie Sharp for the an article about body confidence for Sporteluxe. The Be You campaign celebrates self-acceptance, cultural diversity and individuality and aims to inspire young women to feel comfortable in their own skin. “We’re all for empowering women here at Sporteluxe HQ so we chatted to Jessica about the campaign as well as her top beauty tricks and tips to keep her bikini body in shape while she’s on the go.”

Jessica_Gomes_body_confidence_secrets_1What does ‘Be You’ mean to you?

To be a trailblazer! To be a warrior! For me, the campaign is about being the real you, the person that you desire in your heart to be. With no fear of what others may think. To love all of you and control your own destiny.

How do you make yourself feel instantly amazing?

I try to appreciate what matters in my life every day. I’m alive. I’m healthy. I have my family and my friends who make me happy!

When do you feel most yourself?

When I’m at home in bed after a shower with no make-up on. Just in my pyjamas writing in my journal.HONORED TO BE AN UPSIDE GIRL

What are your ‘go-to’ beauty tips and tricks for a little extra confidence boost?

Go get a massage or have a facial. That always picks me up! Get the blood flowing and get glowing.

Do you have any advice for people looking to become more comfortable in their own skin?

Just surround yourself with positive and healthy people. I think it’s important to be surrounded by people who lift you up and who want the best for you.

What’s your favourite piece from the new THE UPSIDE collection?

I love THE UPSIDE logo muscle tanks and the polka dot leggings and ballet bra.

If we were to take a sneak peek into your gym bag, what would we see?

Black ASICS shoes, Xtend Barre ballet socks, a sweater from THE UPSIDE, headphones and rose body mist.

How do you stay fit when you’re traveling?

I drop into an Xtend Barre class. Go for a jog or a walk. Or if I’m tired, I’ll stretch and get a massage.

Can you describe your day on a plate?Jessica-Gomes-interview-green-smoothie

Breakfast Boiled eggs or oats with a green smoothie.

Lunch Grilled chicken salad with quinoa, kale, tomato and feta.

Snack Almonds and goji berries. Or a coconut water, blueberry and protein powder smoothie.

Dinner Grilled fish with salad or a piece of red meat with steamed vegetables.

What are your top workout songs?

I don’t have a list of particular songs but these artists are always on high rotation: Beyoncé, Rihanna, Coldplay, Jay Z, and Kanye West.

Caulfield Cup Spring Racing Fashion

As a David Jones ambassador I will be at their tent for this year’s Caulfield Cup Horse Races. It’s a very high end event, and I think in keeping in the tradition, it should be not too sexy. In a recent interview I gave the following advice “It’s all about keeping it classy, especially with dresses that are a good length. I think it’s all about sophisticated lines and making sure the ladies are keeping it graceful and classy.”

Typical Training Session 3 Days a Week

By Thursday, August 14, 2014 No tags Permalink 4

I do what I need to do for the modelling industry, it’s my job, but everyone has a cheat day – and I always have an egg and bacon roll on mine. I’m considered curvy in the industry, beauty comes in different shapes and sizes.

I work out three times a week and my personal trainer keeps me motivated; he makes me swing kettle bells, do resistance training and go for 5km sprints, three times a week for an hour.

Here is a typical workout with personal trainer Jordan Ponder at a park in the Sydney suburb of Rushcutters Bay.

  • Squats with weight
  • Swinging 5 kg kettle bells side to side to keep my waist in trim
  • Resistance training
  • 5km sprints
  • Warming down for 15 minutes
  • Limbering down to stretch after a session

And when it comes to my diet, it’s hot water and lemon in the morning followed by an avocado, almond milk and whey protein smoothie for breakfast, and a strong black coffee.

Sometimes I treat myself to a cooked breakfast of scrambled eggs before a lunch of chicken salad and fish and vegetables for supper. Food is enjoyable, it’s supposed to be fun, so anyone who wants to stay in shape should make sure they do it healthily.

People always ask where I got such long legs and I attribute them to my tall Chinese-born mother and my ‘hour-glass’ figure to my Portuguese-born father.

Bikini Confidence Interview on CLEO

By Tuesday, August 12, 2014 No tags Permalink 3

I was recently interviewed by Ellie McDonald for the CLEO website filled with celebrity news, health and beauty tips. Here is an excerpt from the article. You can read the entire interview by clicking here.

It’s coming into bikini season very soon. What tips would you give CLEO readers for a bit of body confidence?

“I think it’s important to exercise and just make sure that you feel good. It’s all about being comfortable in your skin, and just feeling energetic and strong. I always think it’s really great to try and eat healthily and get to the gym or go for fun – do anything that makes you feel good.”jessica-gomes-sports-illustrated-2013-04

Does this is also link with the Paleo diet you’ve been on?

“Yes! I’ve just been following Paleo – I pretty much do that 80 per cent of the time. It’s just low sugar, no dairy and lots of protein and vegies leading up to the show so I feel in tip-top shape.”

What’s the one exercise or workout you swear by?

“I would definitely say it would be cardio and weight training. I think running at an incline really helps strip away fat. And I love dancing, as well. I do a lot of Tracy Anderson aerobic exercises – they’re really, really good. My mum does Zumba, but I haven’t got there yet!”

My Beauty Philosophy and Tips

By Monday, August 11, 2014 No tags Permalink 4

I was recently interviewed by India-Jewel Jackson and Elizabeth Griffin for an article titled “Getting a Manicure with Supermodel Jessica Gomes” in Marie Claire where I shared some of my secrets about make up, beauty and my daily routine. Getting a Manicure with Supermodel Jessica Gomes 2I like to be comfortable—my daily uniform consists of a white tee, jeans, heels and a leather jacket or a tailored blazer. I also love spending time outdoors, and I try to stick to an organic paleolithic diet. I enjoy cold-pressed green juices in the morning and I rely on Pilates reformer classes to stay toned and in shape. My beauty philosophy is the same; keep it simple and not too complicated.

My go-to makeup look in my off time is just lip-gloss and mascara (both of which I hoard—I have to learn to let go!), but when it comes to attending official events, it’s either eyes or lips—never both. I’m almost always all about glowy skin, a nude lip, and an open, smoky eye with lots of lashes. (I’ll usually ask my makeup artist for the “J. Lo” and she knows exactly what that means.)

Getting a Manicure with Supermodel Jessica Gomes 3

As for my skin, well I get that from my mom as well. Her beauty regimen has always been very simple:

1) Hydrate every single inch of your body immediately after bathing, and

2) Wash your face before you go to bed, and again as soon as you wake up.

To this day, I faithfully cleanse every morning and night whenever I’m working (i.e. wearing a ton of makeup). I use SK-II Facial Treatment Cleanser and SK-II Facial Treatment Essence. The former leaves my face feeling squeaky clean, while the latter soaks into my skin really nicely so it always feels really soft and hydrated. With moisturizing, my skin type falls on the drier side, so I’ll use something light with SPF during the day, and at night I slather on a nourishing cream from Amore Pacific.

When I’m at home and off-duty (or paddle boarding on a beach in Byron Bay for the holidays), sometimes I skip the whole cleansing-and-moisturizing step altogether and just mist my face with a hydrating mineral water as soon as I wake up. I like to switch it up a bit since I’m usually hanging by the beach and not wearing makeup. I tend to use brands like Embryolisse, Bioderma, Nuxe and Avene, which I always purchase at French pharmacies in Paris.
